Why Broad-Spectrum UVA/UVB Sunscreen

Let's get to the bottom of it! Whether it is raining day or dragon boat season, you need it.

A broad-spectrum, or full-spectrum, sunscreen protects you from both. UVA rays can prematurely age your skin, causing wrinkling and age spots. UVB rays can burn your skin. Too much exposure to UVA or UVB rays can cause skin cancer. Originally, sunscreens were designed to protect against UVB rays, which cause sunburn but only account for a small portion of the full UV spectrum
WHAT IS UVA? Why we need to block them?
UVA: Long-wavelength solar rays of 320-400nm. UVA rays are not blocked by glass, clouds or the ozone layer and thus they comprise the vast majority of UV radiation reaching the Earth's surface.

UVA rays are the same strength year-round and they penetrate the skin more deeply (into the dermis, 2nd layer of skin), causing photo aging, actinic damage (wrinkled, leathery, variously pigmented skin), and contributing to skin cancers including melanoma.
Is Your Skin Safe Indoors?
While glass blocks out sunburn-causing UVB rays, it lets about 75% of premature aging-causing UVA rays through. Being exposed to sunlight shining through your window is not as dangerous as being exposed to sunlight while outdoors, but if you don’t protect your skin from the sun shining through your windows, you’re putting yourself at risk of developing premature wrinkles and skin spots. This is important to keep in mind not only while at home, but in the car, as well.
Besides sunlight, fluorescent light bulbs are another source of UV radiation in the home. The amount of UV radiation emitted by these light bulbs is very small. Still, using these light bulbs at distances closer than 1 foot for more than an hour per day could be dangerous. To protect your skin from UV radiation indoors, make sure to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen, or moisturizer with broad-spectrum protection.
Transparent Titanium Dioxide and Micronized Zinc Oxide
Since there are no clear regulation for sunscreen products to be broad-spectrum, you may not know whether the sunscreen you are using are protecting you from photo aging and related damages. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends everyone use sunscreen that offers the following: Broad-spectrum protection (protects against UVA and UVB rays) SPF 30 or higher. The most cosmetically elegant sunscreens use micronized forms of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide because their smaller particle sizes are less likely to leave a white cast.
